Ardoch Fort

Ardoch Fort

2nd century Roman fort. Located outside the village of Braco, Perthshire, Scotland.

Ardoch was one of a series of forts built along the ‘gask ridge’ (an east-west line marking where the lowlands meet the highlands). These forts were built to defend the Roman frontier following their invasion of Britain. It was abandonded when the Romans retreated back to Hadrians wall and then later re-occupied as an outpost after the Romans once again pushed forward into Scotland moving their Northern frontier from Hadrians wall to the Antonine wall, stretching from the firth of forth to the firth of fife.
