High Mill

High Mill

High Mill is a water driven corn mill in the Cumbrian town of Alston built in 1767 by the renowned engineer John Smeaton, best known for his Eddystone lighthouse off the south coast of Cornwall.
This grade II listed corn mill has been altered and added to over many years. The original structure is still easily recognisable but all that remains of the mill internally is the old water wheel.

The project was commissioned as part of the Governments ‘5G Rural Intergrated Testbed’ initiative (5GRIT) to record and reconstruct the life of this building within a virtual reality environment.

The full ‘tour’ can be viewed here below. (there are sounds and audio embedded into the tour)
