Perth Castle

It is not known exactly when Perth castle was built however it does appear to have had a very short life span. Evidence of the castles’ existence is first recorded after the monks of Dunfermline Abbey were granted possesion of its chapel between 1157 and 1160.

Then in 1209 a disastrous flood is reported to have destroyed both the bridge over the river Tay and the castle.

Today Perth Art Gallery and the Concert Hall occupy the general area over which the castle once stood.
