The IRT Power Station
The Interborough Rapid Transit Powerhouse, constructed in 1904 to power the subways of Manhattan island in New York City, USA
Crystal Palace
The Crystal Palace was built in London, Hyde Park to house the Great Exhibition of 1851.
Here you see it after it was relocated to Sydenham Hill in South London.
It was destroyed by fire in 1936
Groverake Fluorspar Mine
Originally operating as a lead mine in the 1800s this site changed ownership a number of times until 1999 when it was finally abandoned. (North Pennines AONB)
HMS York
Following 12 years in service HMS York was moored at Portsmouth harbour and used as a prison ‘hulk’ between 1819 and 1854.
Rookhope Lead Smelting Mill
The horizontal chimney, pictured here in County Durham, carried away lead fumes for more than a mile up the adjacent hillside.

SS Great Eastern
An iron built sailing / steamship designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel in 1858.
The largest ship ever built at the time with a capacity to carry 4000 passengers. (The Brunel Institute)
Nenthead Lead Mines
Nenthead is one of Englands highest towns in the County of Cumbria, purpose-built for the Lead mining industry during the mid 18th Century.
